ABOUT CSI PHILADELPHIA CHAPTER
President’s Welcome Message
Continental Societies, Inc.® – Philadelphia Chapter
It is my honor to greet you as President of the Philadelphia Chapter of Continental Societies, Inc.® — a chapter whose roots run deep in the very foundation of our national organization. In 1956, a visionary group of Philadelphia women joined with sisters from Baltimore, Newport News, and Washington, D.C. to form what would become Continental Societies, Inc.® Their collective commitment to uplifting underserved children and youth laid the cornerstone of a legacy we proudly continue today.
The Philadelphia Chapter known as the "mother chapter" was formed in 1952 before Continental Societies Inc., became a national organization. One of the original founding groups, our chapter carries a unique responsibility and a profound privilege. We stand on the shoulders of women who believe in service, sisterhood, and the transformative power of investing in young lives. Their spirit guides our work, strengthens our unity, and inspires us to reach higher in every program we deliver.
Today, we remain steadfast in our mission to create environments where children can thrive academically, socially, emotionally, and creatively. Through our dedication to the Five Programmatic Thrusts — Health, Education, Employment, Recreation, and Arts & Humanities — we continue to make a meaningful impact across the Philadelphia community.
I extend heartfelt gratitude to our members, partners, and supporters whose commitment fuels our efforts. Together, we honor our founders not only by remembering their vision, but by advancing it with purpose, compassion, and excellence.
May we move forward in unity, service, and love for all children.
In Service and Sisterhood,
Diedrelaithe Gibson Smith
